Upscale restaurant interior with warm ambient lighting and elegant table settings

The Client

A family-owned restaurant group with three locations: a flagship fine-dining establishment, a casual gastropub, and a waterfront seafood spot. Despite consistently excellent food and a loyal local following, the ownership was struggling to reach new customers. Their clientele was aging, and younger demographics were discovering restaurants through Instagram, TikTok, Google Maps, and voice assistants — channels the restaurant had completely ignored.

Weekend reservations were down 20% year-over-year, and the newest location was underperforming projections. The owners knew they needed to modernize how they attracted diners, but they did not know where to start.

The Challenge

When we conducted our initial audit, we found problems across every digital touchpoint:

  • No social media strategy — the Instagram account had just 340 followers, inconsistent posting, and no professional food photography. The content that did exist was poorly lit phone photos with no engagement strategy behind them.
  • Incomplete Google Business Profiles — all 3 locations had outdated menus, wrong holiday hours, and zero owner responses to reviews. Google was showing incorrect information to potential diners.
  • Invisible in voice search — voice search results for "best restaurants near me" and "best seafood [city]" returned competitors exclusively. When people asked Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant for restaurant recommendations, this group did not exist.
  • Inconsistent listing information — business details were different across Yelp, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, and 30+ other directories. Some listings showed old addresses, disconnected phone numbers, or the wrong cuisine type.
  • No online reservation integration — the group was still relying primarily on phone calls for reservations, missing the large segment of diners who expect to book with a tap.
  • Reputation damage at the flagship — the fine-dining location had a 3.8-star average on Google, dragged down by 5 old negative reviews that were never acknowledged or addressed. Those unanswered reviews were the first thing potential customers saw.

The Approach

We designed a phased strategy that addressed every gap systematically, starting with the foundational assets and building outward toward visibility and engagement.

Phase 1 — Weeks 1-3

Professional Content Production

We organized a professional photo and video shoot across all 3 locations — capturing the food, ambiance, cocktails, kitchen action, and staff personality. The result was a content library of 200+ high-quality assets that would fuel every channel for months. This was the foundation everything else would build on.

Phase 2 — Weeks 2-6

Listing Cleanup and Optimization

We corrected business information across every platform — addresses, phone numbers, hours, menus, and reservation links. We uploaded the new professional photos, wrote compelling descriptions for each location that emphasized their unique character, and added online reservation links to every listing. Consistency across 30+ platforms meant Google and other search engines could finally trust the data.

Phase 3 — Weeks 3-8

Social Media Launch

We developed a unique brand voice for each location's Instagram account and established a content calendar with daily posts. Reels of chef prep and cocktail making performed especially well. We incorporated user-generated content reposts to build community, and launched targeted Instagram and Meta ad campaigns to reach foodies within a 15-mile radius of each location.

Phase 4 — Weeks 4-12

Voice Search Activation

We implemented structured data markup across the group's web presence, created FAQ content that matched how people actually speak to voice assistants, and optimized Google Business Profiles for conversational queries. The goal was simple: when someone asks Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant for a restaurant recommendation in the area, these locations needed to be the answer.

Phase 5 — Ongoing

Reputation Management

We responded to every existing review — including the negative ones — with genuine empathy and concrete solutions. We launched a post-dining review request system via table QR codes that made it effortless for happy customers to share their experience. Review volume grew from 45 total reviews to 180+ across all locations, and the tone of the overall review profile shifted dramatically.

The Outcome

Within four months of launch, the results spoke for themselves:

Combined social media reach increased 425% in 4 months

All 3 locations now appear as the top voice search result for their respective cuisine categories in their market

Reservation volume increased 93% — with the waterfront location hitting full capacity on weekends for the first time

Instagram followers grew from 340 to 4,800 across all accounts

The fine-dining location's Google rating improved from 3.8 to 4.6 stars

User-generated content (customer photos and tags) increased 12x

The newest location hit profitability 4 months ahead of the revised projection

Weekend wait times returned — a "problem" the owner was happy to have

"I'm a chef, not a marketer. I used to think posting food photos was enough. Apex showed us that people discover restaurants completely differently now — through voice search, Instagram Reels, and Google Maps. We're busier than we've been in five years."
